Fabrics have always inspired me - the myriad colors, the patterns, the textures...the surprises they bring when joined together. For many years, creating art quilts was a satisfying outlet for that inspiration. As my confidence grew in my abilities, so did my willingness to experiment with some new processes and materials (e.g., gluing, stiffening, wire, wood). I soon discovered that I could use this medium I so enjoyed - and other materials as desired - to create almost anything I wanted. This proved to be an important turning point for me, enabling me to begin to change my focus to what I wanted to say, and then how I wanted to say it - rather than being driven by purely aesthetic and technical concerns.
As a result of continued experimentation, I have made some other important discoveries: I've found that I prefer to work in a small scale, and that I am most engaged and challenged when working in three dimensions. I have thus changed my focus from larger, 2-dimensional wall pieces to small, 3-dimensional, mixed media work (predominantly fiber). I am currently working on two series: (I) 3-dimensional structures that explore the individual house as icon, and (2) 3-dimensional vessels with a city or narrative theme.
